However, in reality, Anthropic does not loudly say that, and does not advocate for a global pause or slowdown. Instead of calling for international regulation, Anthropic makes calls about beating China and lobbies against legislation that would make a global pause more likely. Anthropic does not behave as though it thinks the whole industry needs to be slowed down or stopped, even though it tries to appear this way to the AI safety community; it's lobbying is actively fighting the thing that, in a pessimistic scenario, would need to happen.
